Goncalves’ face was so “disfigured” that Officer Corbin Smith of the Moscow Police Department “was unable to comprehend exactly what I was looking at while trying to discern the nature of the injuries.”
When it came to Mogen, Chapin, and Kernodle, the medical examiner found nothing except sharp force injuries; nevertheless, Goncalves exhibited symptoms of “sharp force injuries, asphyxial injuries, and blunt force injuries.”
