Jennifer Lopez is addressing “negativity” in the world while celebrating a career triumph.
Her new sci-fi thriller Atlas ranked first on Netflix’s English Films List and remains the streaming platform’s most-watched movie for the second consecutive week, according to Netflix data.
On June 5, Lopez wrote in her OnTheJLo email, “I just found out some great news, and it’s all because of YOU!!” ATLAS is once again the world’s number one this week!!! Thank you all very much!!!”
“There may seem to be a lot of negativity in the world right now…” “But don’t let the voices of a few drown out the fact that there is so much love out there,” she said. “Thank you very much!! “I love you all so much.”
Lopez, who also serves as the film’s producer, plays Atlas Shepherd, a “brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence.” The storyline of the futuristic film revolves on “saving humanity’s future from AI.”
Brad Peyton directed Atlas, which stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong.
The Mother, Lopez’s action thriller set to release in May 2023, was a huge smash for Netflix last year and is now ranked ninth on the platform’s all-time list of most-watched films.
Though Lopez did not specify what “negativity” she was referring to in her fan message, Atlas’ debut coincided with rumors about her marriage to Ben Affleck. According to sources, the couple’s relationship is “not in the best place” and they have been living apart in recent weeks.
Lopez postponed her summer concert tour last week to spend time with family and friends.
In a note to her admirers, she added, “I am utterly heartbroken and distraught over disappointing you. Please understand that I would not do this unless I felt it was really essential.
“I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again,” said Lopez. “I adore you all very much. “Until the next time.”
