Taylor was previously claimed to have represented the mother of victim Xana Kernodle before stepping aside when Kohberger became her client.

Mogen, 21, and Kernodle, 20, of the University of Idaho, were stabbed to death at their off-campus house in Moscow, Idaho, on Nov. 13, together with Kernodle’s boyfriend Ethan Chapin, 20, and roommate Kaylee Goncalves, 21.

Kohberger was arrested on Dec. 30 for the triple homicide; Taylor is his court-appointed attorney.

Taylor also represented Madison’s father, Benjamin Mogen, in court in September 2020, when he faced two minor narcotics charges, according to Inside Edition.

According to court papers examined by the publication, he pled guilty to one of his two offences and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

According to Inside Edition, the county’s chief public defender was also working with Mogen’s stepmom Korie Hatrock in 2022 after she was charged with one misdemeanour drug charge and two felony drug charges.

Cara Northington, Kernodle’s mother, who was working with Taylor on her own drug issues, said she was “heartbroken” to find that the public defender was suddenly representing her daughter’s accused killer.

Taylor resigned from Northington on January 5, and she was appointed a new counsel.

“I’m devastated because I trusted her,” Northington said in an interview with NewsNation’s Ashleigh Banfield. “I can’t express how deceived I feel.”

Just six days before her daughter was slain, Northington was arrested and charged with narcotics possession.
