The New York congressman-elect, Mr. George Santos has yet to respond to a number of contradictions about his background that The New York Times brought up.

On Thursday, George Santos announced his decision to speak out, promising to do so the following week in order to clarify any lingering questions about his past.

Based on a New York Times article raised concerns about whether Mr. Santos misrepresented essential aspects of his background and financial situation and submitted incomplete or inaccurate congressional disclosures.

Republican Mr. Santos posted on Twitter, saying, "I have my story to tell, and it will be told next week."

Mr. Santos has denied the NTY times' question about “past life and finances” and he pointed to a statement which is released by his lawyer that accused the NY Times of attempting to smear him.

After a while of research, the NY Times found some key pillars of Santos's résumé could not be substantiated. A string of debts and legal trouble, including an unresolved criminal matter in Brazil.

Mr. Santos has received numerous requests to respond to The New York Times' reporting.

Mr. Santos's brief Twitter statement came a day after Representative Hakeem Jeffries suggested that he appeared to be in the witness protection program.

Santos may have misled voters about his account of his Jewish ancestry, including that his maternal grandparents fled persecution around World War II.

The Times reported earlier on Thursday that Mr. Santos's attorney, Joe Murray, did "not anticipate any response" to further questions, though he acknowledged that could change.
