Amazon has declared that it will "eliminate" over 18,000 positions at the corporation, expanding a previously announced wave of layoffs that was supposed to affect 10,000 staff.

The announcement is substantial regarding the number of employees affected, accounting for only 1.2% of Amazon's 1.5 million global workforces.
