According to Trevena, the plane’s left engine seemed to fail, causing it to miss the landing approach and circle back, but it lost control and crashed at the north end of the runway. Firefighters from the Youngstown Air Reserve station at the airport collaborated with local emergency services to put out the resultant fire, he said.

The FAA said that the National Transportation Safety Board would conduct an investigation. The highway patrol said that local police and fire units, as well as the county sheriff’s office, are assisting state troopers on the site.
