Tragic: 43 Horses Killed Barn Fire in Logan County

A massive fire in Belle Center, Logan County, destroyed a barn at Brant Performance Horses, resulting in the deaths of 43 horses and injuring one person.

Horse barn fire in Logan County: A barn in Logan County caught fire on Saturday afternoon, killing at least 43 horses, according to Richland Township Assistant Fire Chief Jason Johns.

Around 12:15 p.m., firefighters were sent to Brant Performance Horses on State Route 638 in Belle Center after receiving fire reports. Crews arrived to find a consumed 60,000-square-foot barn, according to CBS affiliate WHIO.

Multiple local fire departments were sent to help fight the fire.

“The whole structure was not safe to enter. There are residential quarters within. They had a horse arena inside, and everyone was interested…”We could not get in,” Johns told WHIO.

As of Saturday night, Johns reported that 43 horses had been slaughtered. That figure may alter as recovery activities are undertaken.

One individual was hurt and sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. They were eventually moved to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center. Their current status is unclear.

Johns said that the barn had been ruled a complete loss.

It’s unknown what started the fire.
